David Michael was
born in St. John’s Newfoundland to parents of
Lebanese and Polish descent. With such a
diverse background, David attended St. Pat’s
school in St. John’s and at the age of 16 made
the decision to join the Christian Brothers of
Ireland. David spent eight years in the
Brothers until maturity and a questioning and
inquisitive mind caught up with him. In an
effort to redefine himself, he left for Paris
where he started post-graduate work.
David went on to tour
England as the lead singer in a well-meaning
rock group. He appeared as a singer on many CBC
variety shows in the 1970’s alongside some very
talented people. In the 1980’s he started a
promotion and merchandising company importing
from England, where he socialized with
musicians such as The Clash, AC/DC, The Police,
Nazareth, Whitesnake, Motorhead, Elvis Costello,
U.K. Subs, Joy Division, etc. In the 1990’s he
became a real estate developer in cottage
country with limited success.
Now living in Toronto
where he co-own a pub, every year he returns to
Newfoundland. No matter where he goes,
Newfoundland tags along “enriching me as I go”.
