Best known for his
classical style renditions of traditional tunes
and rock classics, Lloyd Bartlett clearly makes
his mark as a composer with this album of
original music for guitar with bass, piano,
percussion and strings. Full Moon, Wide Eyes is
an eclectic collection of light, Jazzish tunes
with a breezy summer aire.
Hot on the heels of
UNJIGGED, a second CD of traditional classics,
Full Moon is the culmination of several years of
working on instrumentals that he has composed
over many stages in his life and career. All
the instrumentation on this CD, with it’s gentle
Spanish overtones and melody driven ballads, are
played by Bartlett himself and the result is a
CD that runs to nearly eighty minutes with
fourteen cuts. This is a smooth, fine sounding
demonstration of Lloyd’s sense of melody as well
as his adept guitar playing.
“Finding titles for
instrumental works is always difficult,” he
says, “so I always try to name them to be
somehow relevant to the times and people in my
life and places I’ve been or things that have
happened to me.” Hence titles like
Fern St, Paradise Boulevard, Coastlines, 95
South, and the
title cut reflected by the cover photo taken in
his own attic. “All the covers of my CDs are
photographed in my own home.”
Full Moon, Wide Eyes
is a CD of tunes purposely designed to be on the
mellow side and are quietly interesting and
subtly complicated so that the CD can be played
as a backdrop to any occasion and never be
boring.
Live performances of
FULL MOON, WIDE EYES, will feature several other
musicians playing piano, bass, drums, congas,
and sometimes cello, and will be very
entertaining to anyone who appreciates fine
guitar playing.
